Kajsa Tylén of Nottinghamshire has been cycling rather a lot in 2016. In fact, she cycled an astonishing 32,326 miles, smashing the previous record out of the park. And her record-breaking ride was supported by her local bike shop, the Nottingham-Derby branch of Leisure Lakes Bikes. The previous record was set in 1938 – Tylén has broken that by November. She finished her ride earlier today outside Leisure Lakes Bikes – the shop erected an inflatable arch to celebrate her achievement.

Tylén is now off on more travels – in civvies and to TV studios.

The previous womens' record for Furthest Distance Cycled in a Year was set 77 years ago by Billie Dovey in order to promote and inspire a healthy lifestyle for women. She rode every day, on a three-speed road bike, and achieved 29,603 miles, often finishing the day giving a talk on the health benefits of cycling.
