Following the recent launch of its Retail Partnership Programme, cycleplan has secured a number of early sign ups, including with Action Bikes, On Yer Bike, Leisure Lakes Bikes, White Bear, Jive Bikes and All Terrain Cycles.
The BikeBiz Awards 2014 sponsor says that any cycle retailer can become a cycleplan Retail Partner: "The partnership allows retailers to offer customers who purchase a new bike or accessories a four week cycleplan insurance free trial followed by a twenty per cent discount for those that subsequently take out an annual cycle insurance policy."
cycleplan is one of the portfolio of brands run by The JRW Group sport insurance specialists.
John Woosey, cycleplan MD, added: “Our aim is to support retailers by helping them drive more sales using our unique promotion and giving their customers added value.
“Theft, damage and accidents can and do happen yet many cyclists assume that they are fully covered under their household contents insurance. That’s often not true, particularly when damage happens when riding the bike because it’s then classed as being out-of-home and therefore it is not covered by many household policies.
"Our Retail Partner Programme gives retailers the opportunity to provide free insurance to their customers, allowing the customer to walk out of the store with their new bike and accessories covered. With one bike stolen in the UK every minute and thousands of pounds now being spent on bikes, clothing and accessories, this free trial is something of real value to the customer and offers first class customer service. And if after the four weeks, the Retail Partner customer takes out an annual policy with cycleplan, the retailer will earn revenue on the back of that. Action Bikes sells via its online portal and five London stores. MD Tony Yerby said: “cycleplan is the right partner for us as a significant proportion of our bikes are sold to Londoners and unlike many other insurance companies, cycleplan doesn’t have a premium penalty if you live in a city which is great news for our customers.”
On Yer Bike has branches in Burnley and Blackburn as well as an online store. MD John Aspden commented: “It was important for us to work with a partner that could tailor an insurance policy to the different needs of the wide variety of cyclists we sell to, from leisure cycling and commuters right through to those who compete on a regular basis. cycleplan has policies to suit the individual needs of our customers.”
All Terrain Cycles have two stores in Yorkshire and online retail. MD Tony Booth said: “Cycle insurance is something that many customers think they don’t need. However, often their household insurance doesn’t give adequate cover so the four-week free trial is good for them to try it out.”
