Newspapers from the region are reporting that a rescue crew has recovered two of the walkers, Ma Chi-yen and Lin Kang-shi, who were buried under mud and they have been airlifted to hospital. A search party is continuing to search for the missing walker, Yang Chia-chia.

Five other members of the party, trapped by a mudslide near the entrance to the mountain park, were also injured and taken to hospital. These include German nationals Kai Uwe Wilhelm and Joshua Marc, and American Terri Hewitt.

Marc was praised by the rescue crew after he dug out three of his colleagues buried in mud.
