Bike trade riders sought for Phil and Friends Ride

As the tension mounts to see whether Phil Liggett will win Cycling Weekly's Yellow Mike award for best Tour de France commentator, the CTC president has invited industry folk on his annual ride to benefit the CTC's Cyclists’ Defence Fund. The Phil and Friends Challenge Ride takes place in the Peak District on Sunday 17th August and includes climbs up many of the ascents used by the Liggett-organised Milk Race of the 1980s.

As usual, the event starts and finishes in Stannington, Sheffield and will raise money to support CTC’s campaigning work and the Cyclists’ Defence Fund, which was set up to protect and improve cyclists’ legal rights.

The 150km ride will take in Holme Moss, Winnats Pass and Monsal Head – all climbs made famous by the Milk Race. A shorter, but still tough, 100km route is also available.

Phil Liggett said: “This is a great opportunity to raise money to support CTC’s valuable campaigning work while enjoying some truly spectacular scenery, and having had almost 600 people ride in last year’s event, we are hoping for a really great response.”

Entry to the ride costs £5 for CTC and Audax members and £7.50 for non-members.
