The Bike Week Liaison Group said Cancer Research UK will also get the pledged cash from individuals who get sponsored to cycle to work during June or July.

Local authorities, major employers and cycle campaign groups are planning Bike2Work rides throughout Bike Week (15-23 June), when cycle owners will be actively encouraged to bike to work instead of using a car or public transport.

Some Bike2Work events will feature a free breakfast for participants, who this year are requested to obtain sponsorship from family, friends and colleagues or donate the money they save by cycling to work to Cancer Research UK. (Email your name, address with postcode and phone number to bike@cancer.org.uk to request a fundraising pack).

Bike Week is co-ordinated for the following organisations: Association of Cycle Traders, Bicycle Association, British Cycling, British Schools Cycling Association, Consortium of Bicycle Retailers, CTC, Cycle Campaign Network, Cycling Time Trials, London Cycling Campaign, National TravelWise Association and Sustrans.

Bike Week is financially supported by the Department for Transport, Local Government and the Regions, the Northern Ireland Department for Regional Development, the Scottish Executive and The National Assembly for Wales.
