The home page of Bikebiz.co.uk was flashed up on mammoth video screens at last nights Periodical Publishers’ Association Awards of Excellence held at the Grosvenor Park Hotel in London, attended by 1500 members of the British publishing industry.
But Doctorjob.com, a graduate recruitment website walked off with the top spot in the Interactive Business Magazine of the Year category. Doctorjob.com is run by 19 staff and, by rights, is a business-to-consumer (B2C) site rather than a business-to-business 9B2B) site.
All the other websites on the business website shortlists were bedfellows of print B2B magazines, including Bikebiz.co.uk, the website of BicycleBusiness.
The awards were presented by TV satirists John Bird and John Fortune.
There were 900 entries across all the 20 award categories The 90 judges included former Sunday Mirror editor Eve Pollard and actress Maureen Lipman.
The awards came at the end of a two day conference, Magazines2002. Bikebiz.co.uk attended the website seminars, where there were presentations from sites such as TheRegister and FriendsReunited.
BicycleBusiness editor/publisher Carlton Reid said: “Bikebiz may not have won the top gong but merely to be placed on the shortlist was an achievement in itself. And to get a 'highly commended' was very satisfying. For a little trade mag to rub shoulders with the very best consumer magazines in Europe was great. I’m now eager to continue to improve Bikebiz.co.uk and I picked up loads of good ideas at the website conference.”
