BMA petition closes

Thanks to all those who took the time to add their names to the online petition requesting the BMA evaluate ALL the evidence in the cycle helmet compulsion debate, and not just the data supplied by the Bicycle Helmet Initiative Trust, key parts of which used injury and death statistics not found in official, traceable sources.
Publish date:

2346 people signed the petition, nearly 8 percent of whom were doctors. That's 186 doctors, a significant number.

An email will soon be going out to these doctors to make sure the PhD docs are split from the medics.

Cycle helmet compulsion is a contentious issue and needs to be debated by the BMA's Annual Representative Meeting (ARM), not decided behind closed doors.

In 1999, BMA members voted to be pro-helmet, anti-compulsion.
