Tickets are now on sale for the BMX Supercross World Cup, which returns to the Manchester National Cycling Centre from April 18th/19th, 2014.

The event quickly sold out when first held at the National Cycling Centre in April last year and has since been named as Manchester's Major Sports Event of the Year for 2013 at an awards ceremony in the city last week.

The event is part of UK Sport’s Gold Event Series, which aims to bring 70 world class sporting events to the UK by 2019, and is also backed by British Cycling and Manchester City Council.

Last year both the Time Trials Superfinals and Supercross competitions were won by British athletes – Shanaze Reade and Liam Phillips - who went on to become World Champion in New Zealand in July. As reigning champion, Phillips will wear the UCI rainbow stripes in April 2014.

Of the competition, Phillips said: “I am thrilled by the idea of competing in the world champion’s jersey in front of a British crowd. The competition itself will be tough, but I’ll put everything into repeating my success from last year and I’m looking forward to once again being able to race at my home BMX track in Manchester.”
