Cycle speed dating, cycle-in cinema and other bike activities planned for September in the city

Bristol gears up for Cycle Festival

Following last year’s debut, the Bristol Cycle Festival is returning later this month.

Running from Saturday September 17th to Sunday 25th, the event includes a full programme of events including the official festival party, the bike Olympics, a cycle-in cinema, cycle speed daters and a bike library.

Several bike retailers are displaying posters and encouraging customers to go along, with a number of companies from the trade supporting the event, including:
-Bristol Pedal Revolution is helping run the Scrap Store Family Fun Day, Mr Berridge Challenge and Bike Olympics
-Bristol Cycle Shack are running a stall at the ‘Carnivelo’
-Toddlebike are helping to organise the Bike Olympics on the Sunday
-Cycles Maximus are involved in ‘The Economic Cycle’
-Sustainable Travel Solutions are helping run ‘Businesses Need Hybrid Electric Bikes’
-Finally, components firm BrevM is sponsoring the Bike Polo

One of the event organisers, Mel Cairns, commented: “We all know that cycling is a green, healthy and cheap way to get about, but the festival showcases the sheer joy of pedal power and brings together the passionate, the practical and the curious to celebrate it.”

The Festival HQ will be based at the Showroom, College Green and will be open from 11am till 6pm every day (17th – 25th) as a hub for information, maps, exhibitions, talks and more.

The festival is run entirely by volunteers and bike companies and shops interested in getting involved can contact the organisers at info@bristolcyclefestival.com
