British Cycling has today confirmed the appointment of Matt Ellis as the cyclo-cross co-ordinator for the Great Britain Cycling Team.

Ellis, who represented Great Britain five times at world championship level, will undertake the responsibility of co-ordinating the activities of the British cyclo-cross riders and assume the team manager role at major events.

Speaking of his new role, Ellis said: “It’s a really exciting time to be involved with cyclo-cross given the results the British riders have had over the past couple of years. My aim is to help the Great Britain Cycling Team build on this success by supporting the riders and staff during the cyclo-cross season and providing a year round point of contact for talented British cyclo-cross riders.

“Cyclo-cross and mountain biking have been a big part of my life, both as a rider and as a coach, and I’m looking forward to being involved in international racing once again.”

Performance director Stephen Park added: “I’m delighted Matt has accepted the role of cyclo-cross co-ordinator for the Great Britain Cycling Team. British riders have a reputation for excelling in cyclo-cross and Matt will be responsible for managing the team to ensure this success continues in future years.

“Although it’s not an Olympic discipline, the cyclo-cross season is an important time of year for the Great Britain Cycling Team mountain bike and road endurance riders, particularly on the Academy programmes, as it’s an opportunity to gain race experience and develop bike handling skills, so we will be looking to capitalise on the international level of racing available which Matt will facilitate.

“Matt’s knowledge, experience and understanding of cyclo-cross will be invaluable to the role and we look forward to having him on the team as the cyclo-cross season begins.”
