Folding bike manufacturer Brompton has opened a new office in Portland, Oregon, adding a number of new staff in the process.
Although Brompton bicycles have been imported into the USA and Canada for some 20 years, Brompton Bicycles has only had employees in North America for the last three years. The appointment of Ed Rae as an agent for North America in 2009 signalled what the brand says is "an increased level of confidence Brompton has in its North American market and its commitment to it.
Joining Rae last year, John McConaghay came on board as a dealer representative and has since been an integral part of setting up the new offices in one of America's most cycling friendly districts.
The new office boasts a meeting room, a workspace for wrenching, storage and a comfortable office area. The icing on the cake is that when the rain finally stops, the front glass gate can be rolled back to give them a street café-style working environment.
Rae said of the expansion: “It’s gratifying and exciting to see Brompton move to this next level in North America. In the last three years the number of dealers has quadrupled and both interest in, and use of, folding bikes has blossomed here. Brompton is beginning to be seen and appreciated here more as it is in Europe and Asia, where it enjoys preeminent status as the benchmark folder of reference.”
Brompton will produce over 30,000 bikes this year and expects eight per cent of these to be shipped to North America. Each bike is still built by hand in London, England.
The Oregon offices are found at 2552E NW Vaughn Street, Portland, Oregon, 97210, USA and are contactable on (+00 1) 503 719 5956
