Brompton renews sponsorship of 'Cycling by train' guide

First produced in 2000, the 'Cycling by train' leaflet published by Association of Train Operating Companies includes info on train company policies for taking bicycles on the trains. These policies vary widely from company to company. The new leaflet features an illustration by Diana Powell, the artist used on the CycleCity maps of British cities. The graphic includes lots of Bromptons.

The Association of Train Operating Companies has updated the 'Cycling by train' leaflet. It's still sponsored by Brompton.

The guide includes contact phone, e-mail details and website addresses of train companies and cycling groups; the times of day cycles can and cannot be carried on trains; reservation phone numbers for passengers wishing to reserve space for their bicycles; and the charges for taking cycles on trains where this applies.

Folding bikes can be carried as luggage on trains and require neither payment nor forward booking.

David Mapp, ATOC commercial director said: “Recent figures suggest that approximately 40,000 people a day use bikes to access railway stations in London and the south east alone. That number is growing, as is cycle usage throughout the rest of the country as better facilities are provided. Train operators are always looking to provide services and information which passengers want - I hope this leaflet continues to encourage more cyclists to make use of the railway network.”
