Team Jeep MTB rider Evan van der Spuy is an overnight internet sensation thanks to being knocked from his bike on a bush ride in South Africa. While UK cyclists have to contend with taxi-drivers, bush riders in South Africa have to contend with other types of wild animals, including territorial red hartebeest, a type of antelope.
"Haha, think I might need a new helmet, that’s just a guess," Spuy wrote on a post on the Team Jeep South Africa Facebook.
The rider has been interviewed by ABC News and other channels. The red hartebeest hasn’t.
The footage of Spuy being bushwhacked by the buck was shot by team-mate Travis Walker on a GoPro Camera. Spuy’s helmet was a write-off. The rider got up from the bushwhacking largely unharmed.
