Camden Council has promised to actively address parking in cycle lanes, with a particular focus on the mandatory lane at Tottenham Court Road.
With plans to double capacity on the popular east to west route over a trial period, Camden Council will go on a parking enforcement drive to keep delivery lorries and cars out of the cycle lanes running through Bloomsbury and Fitzrovia. A ban on loading currently applies from 8.30am to 6.30pm Monday to Friday.
Speaking to Fitzrovia news, a council spokesperson said: "At this location in Tottenham Court Road there is a waiting and loading restriction in place that is operational between the hours of 8:30am and 6:30pm, Monday to Friday. If vehicles are seen parked here during these hours and no exemption exists, enforcement action will be taken. In light of the concerns raised our contractors have been asked to monitor the location more closely over the coming weeks."
Camden Council surveys recently showed 1,009 cyclists used the busy corridor during the morning rush hour.
The local paper this week found three vans parked in the cycle lane during the prohibited hours had all been issued with fixed penalty notices.
