Cash boost for Welsh cycle tourism

The future of the Welsh International Cycling Festival has been secured with a £13 200 rural recovery grant. The award, from Adfywio cefn gwlad, a body set up by the Wales Tourist Board and Country Council for Wales, will be used to lure back two-wheeled visitors to parts of Wales devastated by foot and mouth.

The money will be put towards publishing cycle routes for visitors and funding the

appointment of two part-time staff to plan, promote and run the Festival for the next two years.

CTC will contribute a further £3300 to the pot, 20 per cent of the original bid and a

condition of the award.

Graham Mills, chair of CTC Cymru said: "This is excellent news and a major achievement for us. This year's Festival was run on a shoestring and its promotion was hampered by lack of funds.

"We will now be able to provide routes sheets so that visitors can xplore the beautiful countryside of the mid and north Wales. Foot and mouth virtually closed the area last year and we are delighted that we can now do something to contribute to its recovery."

Next year's festival will be be held in Rhayader on July 26-27th.
