BikeBiz was there and a full report will appear in the print mag.

But here are some pix from the day, and the 20 mile bike ride undertaken by the 1992 gold medal winning track star, the Byway's Mike Breckon, an Olympic gold medal winning bob sleigh champ from Canada, and assorted hangers on, including the editor of BikeBiz.

CAPTIONS

1: Gary Coltman, left, the former manager of the Raleigh cycle team, now of BioRacer, chats with Chris Boardman.

2: Mike Breckon, left, operations director of the National Byway, and Victor Emery, chairman of the Byway.

3: The launch was held at Zizzis at the Ossington in Newark. Here at the lunch is Phillip Darnton, left, chairman of Raleigh and Philp Staples, of Staples, the Newark IBD.

4: The twenty mile taster of the Newark loop of the Byway included stopovers at some of the lesser-known heritage sites the route passes. This is a 'nodding donkey' oil pump, one of five still left in a small wood near Newark. This was the site of the first onshore oil production in the UK. The Duke's Wood oil field was opened in 1939 to produce oil for the war effort. US oil workers were brought over from Oaklahoma in 1943 to help with the production and the small rural, wooded site at Eakring once had 93 'nodding donkeys' like this one.
