CoBR launch employee awards

Its good to see the CoBR website carries freshly uploaded news. Other trade websites should be updated on a regular basis too. Fresh and flashing on the CoBR site at the weekend was this lead on industry gongs.

Laurie Sedmans CoBR is to launch three bike shop employee awards for presentation at next Octobers CoBR conference. The awards for mechanic of the year, new mechanic of the year and employee of the year are unique, says the website, an industry first.

Importantly, the CoBR website points out that such awards carry PR potential and can help instil the concept that bikes are becoming increasingly complex by the year.

The site doesnt mention whether non-CoBR members can apply but as Laurie Sedman is such a fair minded fellow this must be taken for granted, yes? However, quite what would happen if all three awards were won by employees working for ACT member shops is probably something that would keep poor Laurie awake at night so best not to mention it.

The website doesnt say who the judges are, but, again, its clear Laurie will appoint scrupulously independent judges because hes that kind of guy.

Anyway, enough of the wind up, heres an extract from the website...

Want an incentive to become the best cycle mechanic in the industry or want the necessary motivation to carry on that extra mile within your studies to become a cycle mechanic? Well you've found the place to be.

We are currently awarding two prizes for cycle mechanics within the UK. The first is focussed upon cycle mechanics already working within the cycle industry. The second is to encourage those wishing to enter the industry via training.

Both are aimed at helping raise standards within the industry but also to raise the level of awareness within the cycling public that these things that they ride around on are becoming increasingly complex by the year.

The award includes £500 (retail) of cycle tools donated by Cyclo Tools.

UK New Mechanic of the Year

Two parties will be involved with this award. Aylesbury College and the new employer. Again the award includes £500 worth (retail) of cycle tools donated by Cyclo Tools

UK Cycle Retailer Employee of the Year

Nominations are awaited from employers for sales/customer care personnel who in their estimations deserves the award. The award includes a holiday weekend for two.

The awarding and assessment process will start once nominations are received.
