Montgomerys two page fax, sent as an open letter from COLIBI since we have no web site, is sketchy in parts but is passionately written. It disparages the UCI for ignoring two previous letters (Sept. 8th and 28th) and calls the UCIs unalterable decision to allow sloping top tubes incomprehesible considering the fact that so much unnecessary re-tooling had to be carried out.
The responsibility for the botched decision on the 2000 regulations is now clearly much wider than the small group of technical people at UCI HQ...We are very worried about the future and the UCI should have no illusions about our opposition... says a furious Montgomery. The UCIs press release on October 3rd (concerning the UCIs response to worldwide criticism of their new regs) is described by Montgomery as a wretched document. The UCIs point about about the bicycle industry having been consulted on the regs is called into question: its deeply flawed says Montgomery. The UCIs is pursuing a dictatorial strategem that is cock-eyed.
Despite what you might consider bridge burning rhetoric, Montgomery throws down an olive branch to close his letter: we are totally open to discussions on this matter.
NOTE: If you want to register your own strong feelings to the UCI their website is www.uci.ch and their email is firstname.lastname@example.org.
