Coltman was assisted in securing the Bio-Racer agency by Steve Fenton of the European Cycle Development Agency, a consultant to Bio-Racer of Belgium.
Fenton was asked for his recommendations by Bio-Racer export manager Franky Theunis, the former European brand manager for GT.
Theunis said: “We met with Gary back in July and immediately felt that he is the very person we were looking for to develop the UK market. With the exciting new developments and concepts that we are in the process of launching, the opportunities are great for Bio-Racer in the UK. In order to best capitalise on these opportunities we were seeking someone with not only experience of the high-end market but also the drive, passion and enthusiasm for both the industry and our products."
Coltman will be working from his home office in Leicestershire and will be operating his new agency via Podium, his race management business, although he may soon set up Bio-Racer UK. Product will be shipped direct to IBDs from the Bio-Racer factory in Tessenderlo, Belgium.
Bio-Racer has recently launched the Escape brand of bespoke bikes – with own-label potential – and is in the process of re-launching Bio-Racer bikes.
"Together with the famous bike fitting system, the aim is to provide the end user with their ideal, truly custom-built bicycle whilst at the same time minimising the work involved for the dealer," said Theunis.
Bio Racer also produce a cycle clothing range as well as producing custom team clothing.
