Former track cyclist Scott Coady packed his job and took a video camera to the Tour de France in 2000. He managed to gain access to areas not normally publicised, including Lance Armstrong’s hotel room.
He later produced VHS copies of his film and these gained a cult status in the US.
In July, Coady released a DVD packed with new features – some of them risque – as well as a re-edited, remastered version of the film. Sales of this DVD benefit the Lance Armstrong Foundation. Coady has raised $45 000 to date, and aims to reach $100 000.
"It took my best friendÂ’s daughter getting cancer to give me the inspiration to actually make the film and set a goal to raise $100,000 for the LAF," said Coady.
"It took me two years to get the first version of the film out on VHS and begin showing it around the country. It took a year and nine months to create a full featured DVD version of the film including lots of bonus features.
"People ask me all the time why I am doing what I do. My answer is – you can’t get enough of the Tour de France and you can never do enough fight cancer."
