Custom framebuilders strike deal with UCI

Members of the Framebuilders' Collective are to receive a discount on the 'Approved by UCI' stickering program
Publish date:

The UCI has signed an agreement with The Framebuilders' Collective to reduce the costs of the controverisal homologation procedure for frames and forks. A discount of 20 percent has been negotiated.

The Framebuilders' Collective is a collection of 14 craft frame builders, such as Richard Sachs Cycles, Anvil Bikeworks and other mostly US bike builders. International members include Pegoretti Cycles and Crisp Titanium of Italy, and Llewellyn Bikes of Australia.

Under the agreement, The Framebuilders' Collective offers to undertake the administrative tasks of the simplified procedure for small builders of frames made from tubes.

Carl Strong of Strong Frames, and chairman of the Framebuilders' Collective board of directors said:

"Independent framebuilders wear a lot of hats as both craftsman and businessman. The Framebuilders' Collective understands the limited time that framebuilders have to devote to all of the duties their trade requires of them. The UCI and TFC have developed an arrangement that will help streamline and simplify the UCI process for not only the Framebuilders' Collective members but any other bespoke framebuilders that wish to participate through the Framebuilders' Collective portal."

Don Ferris of Anvil Bikeworks will be administrator of the Framebuilders' Collective UCI Homologation Program.

He said: "The Framebuilders' Collective is pleased to have partnered with the UCI to simplify the process and reduce the cost for bespoke and custom builders wishing to comply with the UCI Homologation Program."

The cost of the simplified procedure is about $500. The approval is obligatory for all new models of frames and forks used in UCI competitions.
