The Cycle Rail Working Group (CWRG) won the integrated transport excellence category at the Rail Business Awards last night (Feb 27th).
The CWRG won the award for its work that led to the single largest increase in cycle-rail provision in Britain, the doubling since 2009 of cycle-rail facilities at railway stations and a 14 million increase in cycle-rail journeys in that period.
The judges praised the work, saying it was a really strong entry. "This multi-stakeholder group has been working together since 2008 delivering improvements, encouraging change and investment and running schemes that have led to direct increases in cycle rail across the UK rail network.
"It's a great example of positive cross-industry working."
Last year we had an in-depth chat with the Association of Train Operating Companies about the phenomenal growth in cycle-rail journeys in the UK.
