Cycle Systems has won contracts for both bicycle servicing and National Standards cycle training on the new Cycle Superhighways.
On July 19th mechanics and cycle instructors from Cycle Systems joined London’s Mayor, Boris Johnson to launch the TfL Super Highways.
While the efficacy of these routes as ‘super’ or not is still hotly debated, TfL have embarked on a bold and novel programme to help business’ on the routes promote cycle commuting. Every company on a CSH can apply for £5K to spend on either visiting Bike Doctor mechanics, on-road cycle training or cycle parking facilities. Broxap, another Cycling Star Alliance member won the contract for supplying the cycle parking facilities.
Julia Lally from Cycle Systems said: "We are thrilled to have been selected by Transport for London to deliver this important Smarter Travel programme. While other players have come into the corporate cycle service market, we remain a trusted and proven supplier for important, large and pioneering contracts. Our training Academy is allowing us to scale up our operation and retain the high quality of service our clients now demand."
Sean Lally, Julia’s co-director added: "The fact that City and Guilds or equivalent qualification was required for all the mechanics for this contract, and indeed many other smaller ones we are seeing really shows how bike mechanics is being taken more seriously and that certain standards are now expected of suppliers. Any company wanting to compete in the marketplace now needs trained and qualified staff, and I am convinced we have the best facility in the UK to train them."
Lally also told BikeBiz that former Academy instrcutor Gary Moger has taken the reigns at Revolve Bicycle Works in Cornwall.
