A multimedia CD-Rom packed with cycling routes, photographs and cycling information has been launched in a bid to make more people aware of the opportunities for cycling in Leicester.

Cycle this city from your sofa

The CD-Rom – titled ‘BikeLeicester’ and produced by MediaWay – contains over 500 photographs of the best cycling in Leicester with details of over 100 miles of planned routes. PC users can take a virtual tour of cycling routes in the city to plan bike rides and view mileage and local history.

Andy Salkeld, cycling officer at Leicester City Council, said: “We are pleased to be involved with BikeLeicester. It is an innovative project which encourages people to get on their bikes and see Leicester.

“Cycling is a great way to keep fit and have fun but it can be difficult to know where to go. With the BikeLeicester CD-Rom people can choose from a selection of routes, click a start point and then be guided on a turn by turn tour with photographs of a route around the city. Picnic points and snack stops are highlighted and the route instructions can be printed out to take on bike rides.
