Cycleroutes.com is a new website offering hundreds of rides throughout the UK with Bing & OS maps, route instructions and an optional GPX file, all of which can be downloaded for £1.99.
For instance, a ten mile cycleway route from Haltwhistle to Slaggyford can be previewed on-screen, and then, for £1.99 can be saved as a 'package' which includes a printable PDF and a GPX file for loading to mobile devices such as GPS machines and, via the Viewranger app, for iPhones, too.
Routes from some of the country’s most popular cycling guidebooks and leading ride providers are available for single or multiple download.
Sources include: Traffic-Free Cycle Trails from CycleCity Guides; the Cycle Tours series from Cordee Publishing; the C2C route in Northern England (in stages) from Excellent Books; and scores of rides from Nick Cotton, author of more than 40 cycling guides across the UK.
Martin Whitfield, director of CycleCity Guides, said the site would make it easier for leisure cyclists to find somewhere interesting to cycle: “There is something for everyone – short, traffic-free rides for a young family, longer day and weekend rides on beautiful country lanes for all abilities, or mountain-bike tracks for the more adventurous.”
The site also offers a cycle journey planner from Transport Direct, the government’s multi-modal journey planner.
Cycleroutes.com was developed by Whitfield and digital mapping specialist Mapyx.
