Thousands of cycle parking spaces needed to cope with rising demand

Cyclist numbers spiral in Dublin

The number of cyclists in Dublin has rocketed by a third in the past five years, leaving the bike infrastructure struggling to keep up, according to RTE News.

Dublin City Council estimates that it needs around 4,000 more bike parking spaces to handle the rising numbers.

In addition to more street parking, further bicycle parking spaces will have to be provided within workplaces, according to the Council.

Twenty-five of the innovative ‘cyclehoop’ racks have been installed on a trial basis in the south of the city, taking up less space than conventional stands. The trial is expected to roll out across the city pending a decision from the Council Transport Committee.
