97 per cent of consumers researching purchases on the web first

Cyclists seeking ‘gadgets’ this xmas

An online survey of 268 cyclists on Bikemagic and RCUK revealed that gadgets are the top items of desire for Christmas 2009.

Exploring spending habits online in the run up to Christmas, the survey found that 46 per cent of respondents are planning to spend over £200 on internet shopping this year, while 11 per cent are planning to spend over £500 online.

97 per cent said they always researched on the internet before they bought online, although for high street purchases this fell slightly to 80 per cent stating they researched products on the internet before they were purchased. 78 per cent said they were doing more than half of their Christmas shopping online this year.

Top bike-related products on cyclists’ Christmas wish lists were baselayers, bibs and jerseys, gloves, waterproof jackets, lights, and of course, a bike. Top non bike-related products included camera equipment, various iPods (iPod touch, iPod nano and iPhone), a laptop and quite a bit of malt whisky.
