The prime-mover behind the now-famous mountain bike trails in Wales has left his job with Forestry Commission Wales, and has created a consultancy advising on trail building.

Dafydd Davis goes private

Davis has spent the past eleven years designing and building trails in Welsh woodlands. Earlier this year he received an MBE in recognition of the benefits the trails bring to local communities.

"I have enjoyed my 11 years with the Forestry Commission, during which time we have built a network of mountain bike trails in our woodlands which are the envy of the world," he said.

"I know that FC Wales is rightly proud of its mountain bike trails and I look forward to working with the Commission in my new role as an independent consultant to help it meet the challenges that lie ahead and ensure that Wales remains a ‘must visit’ location for mountain bikers from far and wide."

Trefor Owen, FC Wales Head of Delivery, said, "I wish Dafydd all the best in his new career and thank him for all the brilliant work he has put in over the past decade or so to create an unrivalled mountain bike trail network here in Wales.

"His knowledge of the sport is second to none and I look forward to continuing to work with Dafydd in his private capacity as we strive to maintain Wales’s position at the top of the mountain bike tree."
