Dahon IOS embeds electronics

At Eurobike, Dahon will introduce new folding bicycles featuring patented technology.

Dahon’s new IOS line is made up of full size bicycles with an ultra compact fold. IOS bicycles have the wheelbase, riding position, and handling characteristics of a full size bicycle but can be folded in seconds to a size only slightly larger than the most compact 20” wheel folding bicycles.

The IOS uses Hydroforming technology to shape the aluminium tubes of the bike. The weight and strength optimisation afforded by hydroforming makes the IOS frame one of Dahon’s stiffest and strongest frames, said a company statement.

A patented new adjustable stem design converts the IOS from an upright cruiser to a stretched-out speed machine.

Pump, lighting, and a phone/GPS charger are integrated directly into the design of the bike. Pix can be viewed here.

The seatpost pump has featured on Dahon bikes previously. The integrated headlight is powered from a hub dynamo, as is the device charger, which can power mobile phones and GPS devices.

The IOS Series XL and IOS P7 will be available worldwide in 2010 €999-1499.
