Dawes single-speed due for May launch

The two owners of single-speed specialist John Atkin Cycles of Leamington Spa have helped Dawes bring a production Edge-One SS to market. Shelved when the company hit the buffers, the bike is now a goer again thanks to the buyout by Tandem Group
Publish date:

The idea for the Edge One was conceived at the Cycle and Leisure Show in 2000, with a prototype 631 steel bike being built later that year. The bike was raced at the Cheddar 2000 European Singlespeed Championships by Maria Bowers. She won the women's class on it.

Due to financial difficulties the Dawes SS never made it in to production for 2001, but under Tandem's ownership the Dawes singlespeed project will hit the shops in May. Sporting a light aluminium frame, quality branded components and a stealth look the bike will retail for £349.

Edge One was developed as a joint project between Dawes and John Atkins Cycles.

This IBD has been building and riding single-speeds since 1995. Their first SS bike was a Klein road frame with the stays hammered out and a Continental 1.5" tyre minus the side knobs.
