Every Sunday, entrepreneur Theo Paphitis asks for small businesses on Twitter to send him a message with their details. He then picks six of his favourites to "rewet" to his 90,900 followers. Paphitis calls this his 'Small Business Sunday' accolade.

Yesterday, Paphitis picked Yorkshire bike shop Cyclesense and balance bike brand Early Rider.

The Dragons' Den tycoon has been promoting his 'Small Business Sunday' award since October last year. Business have to 'tweet' him between 5pm and 7.30pm on a Sunday evening with details of their company.

When retweeted by Paphitis, the 'twittererverse' can go into overdrive, resulting in new followers and hundreds of website visits.

Nichola Loveland, Early Rider's marketing manager said:

"The effects were instantaneous. We have seen around a 25 percent increase in followers in the 12 hours since the 'winners' were announced. It's a great way of promoting British business and getting the word out about our products. Twitter is a wonderful medium for connecting people and we're really pleased to have been selected."

All tweets to Paphitis must be sent as a message to @theopaphitis and include the hashtag #sbs. A hashtag is a means of collecting and following 'grouped' content on Twitter.com
