Organisation sets second e-bike meeting to iron out specifications

ETRA seeks electric bike consensus

The European Twowheel Retailers Association (ETRA) has set the date for its next meeting, in which it is set to tackle European electric bike regulations.

The European body will strive to achieve an agreement between its members, which include Shimano, Schwalbe, Giant, Accell, Dahon and Ultra Motor amongst others, for the specifications for electric bikes to meet approval.

The meeting is set to take place on Tuesday September 29th in Brussels. ETRA is asking interested parties to register by tomorrow (Friday September 25th) at 11am.

ETRA’s invitation said: “The main objective for the second meeting is to come (closer) to a consensus on the specifications for excluding electric bikes from the type-approval on the one hand and to an agreement on how to develop a European type-approval specifically designed for not excluded electric bikes on the other hand. These two issues are the main points on the agenda of the forthcoming Brussels meeting.”

The burgeoning electric bike sector has its own UK body – The British Electric Bike Association (BEBA) – formed earlier this year.
