Eurobike 2019 to kick off 31st July and bring back consumers - BikeBiz
Compromise follows discussions with retail and industry partners

Ahead of its 2018 show next week, Eurobike has announced it will again be switching dates for 2019. 

Eurobike 2019 will run from 31st July to 3rd August as it looks to win back those deterred by this year’s move. 

Next year will also see the return of consumers. Wednesday 31st July to Friday 2nd August will be exclusive to industry professionals, while the fourth day will play host to a targeted consumer festival “oriented for all bike fans”.

Klaus Wellman, Messe Friedrichshafen CEO, said: "Our conceptual refinement of the Eurobike in the direction of a mobility platform has been met with strong support in the global bike industry and underscores our vanguard position as the leading global trade show.”

The show’s organisers stated they had held numerous discussions with retail and industry partners, and that the result of those were “very clear: there is a desire to return to including all bike fans in the Eurobike in the future”. Eurobike went on to admit there is “currently no clear consensus” regarding the “right date” for the 2019 season, with preferences ranging from June to September.

Eurobike head Stefan Reisinger explained: "The date in early August 2019 is currently the timeframe in which the largest number of dates preferred by the industry overlap, and the vote for a concept for the show that includes an appeal to consumers was very clear. In the future, we will continue to flexibly manage the date and concept for the Eurobike, so as to agilely respond to the needs of the marketplace.

Bernhard Lange, ZIV board member and managing director of Paul Lange & Co, added: "The date is certainly a compromise between different interests. Although this date does not completely correspond to the date preferred by the ZIV, I regard the somewhat later date as a good important first step in the right direction and welcome the willingness of the Eurobike management to dynamically consider the developments and needs of the industry in the future.

“I am especially pleased about the return to a concept that clearly also involves consumers. That underscores the position of the Eurobike as a leading global trade show for the entire bicycle industry, at which the industry, retailers, the media, associations, researchers, policymakers and cyclists themselves come together.”
