Light & Motion was founded in 1989 by dive enthusiasts Barrett Heywood and Michael Topolovac who built innovative underwater lighting systems from a garage. The company is now based in a 16,500 square foot, renovated sardine cannery overlooking Monterey Bay in California.
Product is designed and manufactured in this Cannery Row factory. Light & Motion has its own CNC mills, molding, and assembly shops.
Light & Motion bike lights - there are models for MTB and commuting use, as well as specialist ones for police forces - use custom bulbs, proprietary reflectors, and power and weight-saving battery designs.
Madison will sell the entire line of Light & Motion lighting systems including the ARC Li-Ion, ARC HID, Solo Logic MV and Commuter lights.
"Distribution to the UK opens many new opportunities," said Light & Motion's product manager, Patrick Piller.
"Madison's state-of-the-art inventory controls and innovative direct fulfillment model will provide not only the bike shop, but the end-user tremendous value."
Light & Motion is well versed on the different-to-the-US regulatory practices and specifications for bicycle lights in the UK, and also already produces a battery charger that accepts universal (90-260 volts) input current, as well as being very adaptable to different styles of plug pins.
But what about Vistalite? No conflict?
"Light & Motion lights are the perfect complement to Vistalite, our existing performance oriented cycle products lineup," said Madison's product director, Richard Peploe.
"We anticipate enormous interest from cyclists and shops."
