'Bicycle', a documentary celebrating cycling, is seeking public support via the crowd-funding website Indiegogo. Supporters, depending on the level of support (from £10 to £5000), get behind-the-scenes access to the production of the documentary, DVDs of the final product and, for £1000, all of that plus a £1400 frame-building course.

'Bicycle' will be the "definitive feature documentary about the history and impact of the bicycle in Britain," say the makers on their crowd-funding page.

The film is being produced by documentary film-maker Pip Piper and Bafta-winning director Michael B Clifford. They say 'Bicycle' will be a "humorous, lyrical and warm reflection on cycling and its place in the national psyche." The documentary will air in 2014.

"We are in talks about a major premiere and nationwide cinema screenings," Piper told BikeBiz.

Piper’s 2012 documentary 'Last Shop Standing' was about the UK’s independent record shops, featuring interviews with Paul Weller, Johnny Marr and Billy Bragg, and received wide critical acclaim.

'Bicycle' starts shooting soon. The doc already has trade sponsors.

Broadcaster and author Rob Penn, of documentary and book 'It’s All About the Bike's is a creative consultant and contributor to 'Bicycle'. The film will receive its premiere at an event to coincide with the Tour de France Grand Depart in Yorkshire.

It will be screened in cinemas across the UK and released on DVD and digital and terrestrial TV.

"This is a unique opportunity to be associated with a high production value film that will be widely marketed and distributed to a huge and growing cycling demographic," said Piper.
