This week has seen the launch of Scottish Cycling - a new free magazine from Glasgow-based Herald and Times Group, publisher of The Scottish Farmer, The Herald, Evening Times and the Sunday Herald.

Covering all aspects of cycling from MTBing to road rides and family days out by bike, the mag is primarily aimed at the beginner to intermediate rider but occasionally covering more strenuous rides too.

The mag will be distributed throughout February, with a 50,000 copies distributed via a 'targeting network' of maximum availability for cyclists in Scotland. That translates to availability in major cities including Glasgow, Edinburgh, Dundee and Stirling, with over 500 specialist stockists including major bike retailers, outdoor and camping shops, leisure centres, gymnasiums, sports cafes and schools. The Sunday Herald will also insert a free copy into its northern edition, covering Perth, Dundee, Inverness, Aberdeen and the Islands.

There's also a free digital e-edition format which is enhanced and available to read on all mobile and tablet devices including the iPad and iPhone.

Magazine publisher Darren Bruce said: “Following Britain’s recent successes at the Tour de France and the London Olympics, we anticipate that cycling in the UK will continue to go from strength-to-strength. The launch of Scottish Cycling now bridges a gap in the market that helps visualise Scotland’s beautiful landscapes from two wheels, whilst encouraging everyone to become fit, active and healthier. This quarterly magazine will focus on Scottish content for the complete beginners or occasional riders to the more enthusiastic cyclist."

Managing editor Cameron McNeish added: “In this first issue we describe ten great cycling routes in various parts of Scotland and I’ll be describing the highs and lows of my recent Land's End to John O'Groats cycle tour. We will also be looking at cycling specific water and windproof gear and some pretty cool panniers. We also have some good tips on cold weather cycling and hear about the National Cycling Network.”
