Gays on bikes

Profit from the Pink Pound by exhibiting at a new sports fest to be staged next summer and which includes cycling events

Its well known that the Pink Pound is worth chasing. Its a sweeping statement but, with some justification, it can be said that many gay people have large disposable incomes. A lot of gay people especially in urban areas are in good jobs and, when in a stable relationship, fall into the DINKY category: dual income, no kids.

Again, its a generalisation, but gay men in particular, spend a disproportionate part of their income on products that keep them fit and trim.

As well as a load of budget bikes a fair few top of the range, £4000 dual suspension jobbies in circulation have probably been bought not by rapid downhillers but by cafe society gays with plenty of money to splash around on luxuries.

If any of the above rings true with you it might be worth gunning for the Pink Pound by exhibiting at or sponsoring parts of UK Gay Sports 2000. To be held in Waltham Forest, East London, on July 28th-30th next year, this Millennium Festival funded event is brand new and expects to attract up to 5000 participants and 75 000 spectators (plus an international TV audience of millions if the festival gains the expected TV coverage). The main sporting disciplines at the festival include athletics, basketball, football and hockey and there are cycling events too.

There will be a male and a female road race (approx 20 - 25

miles) on a closed circuit and a male and a female mountain bike race on a purpose built off road circuit with 'drop offs' and real mountains, say the organisers. There will also be two fun races (road and mountain bike) for riders with no previous competition experience.
