The childrens cycling CD-ROM BikeBiz featured in August has found a sponsor: Giant. The CD lists all of Giants dealers and was created by the person who was responsible for producing Terry Wogan's Floral Dance (although we wont hold that against him)!

Giant sponsor cycle safety CD

The PC CD-ROM, Solutionquest Cycling, is supported by Giant, and lists Giant dealerships and pictures products from the Giant Bicycle range.

The CD-Rom is aimed at 9-12 year olds, and has been commended by the Institute of Road Safety Officers for its combination of games and timed exercises. Against-the-clock activities such as Spot the Hazard and Road Sign Recognition run alongside highly illustrated technical and practical information which communicates the safe cycling message.

Grant Allan, MD at Giant UK, says:

In Britain just 1 percent of children cycle to school, compare that with 60 percent in Denmark and weve a long way to go. Were hoping that by teaching children safe cycling habits and encouraging independence, the CD-ROM will play a part in addressing some of the UKs transport problems.

Cycling’s a great form of exercise something that not all children get a lot of nowadays. If the two mile journey to school was cycled instead of driven not only would you have a fitter child but you could buy yourself a quality bike to ride with them at the weekend.

Solutionquest Cycling is set in 3001 where toxic emissions have led to the ozone layer being held together by a machine for the preceding 300 years. Luckily new technology has enabled travelling through time and its been discovered that altering the past creates history in the present day. The CD-ROM follows the journey of Spokey, the cyber-agent, who travels back to the 21st century to rediscover some of old earths ways to persuade todays population to adopt a healthier lifestyle to change the future.

Solutionquest Cycling was created by, Mike Redway (and John Zealey) of Redrock Music Ltd and draws upon Giant Bicycles cycling expertise. Redway says:

The idea for Solutionquest Cycling came after producing an interactive road safety CD-ROM, The Signs of Go Stop, which targets four to seven-year olds. Its been a huge success and shortly after its release we were inundated with requests from Road Safety Officers for an interactive cycle training CD-ROM.

Solutionquest Cycling costs £13.98 and is available from: Redrock Music Ltd, The Weald, 58 Hillside Road, Northwood, Middx, HA6 1QB.
