At last week's posh dealer conference, Giant execs Ian Beasant and John Kawecki revealed that the Nottingham company is now trading separately from the European HQ. 70 percent of Giant UK's 100 000 annual bike sales will be designed for the UK market, with the remainder cherry-picked from Giant USA's MTB collection.

Giant UK goes it alone

The separation took place on 1st January but was only revealed at the dealer conference, held last week at the Belfry golf resort in the Midlands.

Giant UK had to previously source its bikes from the US and European collections, with many European colours and bike styles not fitting with the needs of the UK market.

Giant UK now produces commuter bikes built for London tastes, and hybrids specific to Norfolk.

All the bikes are available nationwide but the location-specific models do best at those IBDs which have asked for the modifications.

The new Maestro MTB suspension platform – bikes available now, not later in the summer, that’s mainland Europe only – was launched at the dealer conference. Here’s the press release:

„BECAUSE YOU WANT IT ALL" – MAESTRO COMPLETES GIANT MTB LINE The new cycling machine convinces the "Weekend Warrior" through its revolutionary suspension system

With its new model series Maestro, available in stores towards the end of the summer, 2005, Giant presents an absolute breakthrough in the realm of suspension systems. The Maestro system fully equips the rider with one bike to tackle any terrain. Whether on a long tour, in endurance training, or freeriding, a bike of the Maestro line keeps all options open, thanks to the arguably most complete suspension system on the market, and, mind you, with consistent performance. The innovative Maestro line completes Giant’s MTB range: next to the strong race-orientiented model series NRS and XTC and the pure downhill racing machine DH are three different Maestro models from which the ambitious "Leisure Offroader" 2005 may choose, all of which encompass the complexity of MTB-Sports. The Advantages of the Maestro Suspension System The new Maestro suspension system is available in three different model series: Trance, Reign and Faith. The basis for the three high-performance full-suspension bikes is a new rear machine section system, which, unlike other suspension systems, is not dependent on one specific absorption technology. The new Maestro system is designed in such a way that allows the suspension function to be completely detatched from the brake function. This alone makes the most difficult downhill a controlled descent. Similarly, the axial floating pivot prevents loss of momentum upon ascension. Through the balanced system, a linear compression stress-strain characteristic can be attained, which allows a comfortable and controlled riding style. A particular four-hinged rear machine section guarantees no pedal relapses occur and the sensible suspension assures the best-possible traction. With the new Maestro system, small road unevenness will be absorbed through pedaling or braking.

Right for Every Taste – Trance, Reign und Faith All three models with the Maestro suspension system offer ideal handling on every type of terrain. The Trance (4 models), with four inches of travel (100 Millimeter), is the all-rounder for tours and marathons. The Reign (2 Models), with six inches of travel (150 Millimeter), is epecially suitable for varied endurance routes and the Faith (1 Model), with eight inches of travel (200 Millimeter), is the specialist for challenging freeride courses.
