Giro d'Italia heading for Belfast and Dublin?

£3.8million bid made to host Giro start in 2014

According to a report in the Belfast Telegraph, Belfast and Dublin have teamed up in a bid to bring the Giro d'Italia to the cities in Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.

The Northern Ireland Tourist Board and Failte Ireland have made the submission with the Stormont and Irish Government.

According to the story, around £10m would be generated by the race - the submission costs have been estimated at £3.8million.

Yorkshire is also bidding to host the beginning of a classic cycle race in the near future.
