GO OUTDOORS: LowePro reckons high-end cyclists want high-end bags

Little bags, that is. Padded, protective bags for digital cameras, mobile phones and GPS devices.

LowePro is a legend in its own lifetime among pro snappers. It long ago superceded Camera Care Systems as the soft-bag of choice.

And the comapny's UK operation wants to break into the bike trade. It already has a toehold in the outdoor trade, hence the stand at Go Outdoors in Harrogate.

And LowePro joins IntroLeisure (they of the Aussie Crumpler bags) as a camera P&A supplier wishing to tap into the bike trade. This is partly to do with the decimation of independent photographic equipment shops by giants such as Dixons and Jessops.

The D-res series of LowePro bags would be the most suited to the bike trade. Finished in silver-grey and available in an assortment of sizes, D-res bags are designed for keeping digital cameras safe from knocks and dirt.

LowePro UK Ltd. product manager Andy Bennett told bikebiz.co.uk that discerning cyclists want the best camera protection there is.

"If they've got expensive bikes, it's likely they'll also have expensive digital cameras and gadgets such as GPS devices. And when they take these out on their bikes, they'll want top-end protection which D-res series bags can provide."

Other products suitable for cyclists include the PhotoRunner padded bumbag and the DeWitt Jones strap. This is a nylon-webbing strap with a Velcro closure that holds an SLR and zoom lens close to the cyclist's chest when riding: no more slapping £400 lenses on handlebars, and perfect for budding Steve Behr's.

Buy enough bags and LowePro UK will throw in a wooden POS stand.
