Gore Fabrics Division has today announced a series of ambitious environmental goals to be achieved by 2020.
The new eco-conscious goals include the elimination of damaging PFCs from its fabric products.
The environmental and chemical management goals, which complement Gore’s existing chemicals management programme and long-term sustainability programme, will include getting 100 per cent on Gore garment laminates certified according to the OEKO-TEX standard, improving the Bluesign standard of garment-laminate materials from 70 per cent to 85 per cent by 2020 and working together with suppliers to develop new DWR treatments and membrane materials.
Working in unison with Greenpeace, Gore Fabrics division undertook extensive and valuable research to understand the distinct properties of materials that constitute a PFC of environmental concern and will now strive to manufacture the waterproof Gore membrane with only environmentally sound materials.
Gore Fabrics’ sustainability leader Bernhard Kiehl commented: “The clear distinction between PFCs of environmental concern and PTFE will help overcome a long-standing ambiguity of how to differentiate materials that are safe from those that raise concerns. In addition to providing clearly defined guardrails for the outdoor industry, a rigorous and precise definition clears the way for Gore and its customers to deliver more sustainable technology innovations.”
The substantial innovation program is an important milestone in Gore’s long-term plans of reducing the environmental footprint of its products.
