The recent acquisition of the Mongoose brand by Pacific Cycles in the US has left one UK cycle industry character out in the cold

Gosling goosed by takeover

Before the sale of Mongoose went through, Clive Gosling, the former Cannondale marketing manager, appeared to have landed the post of International Product Manager for Mongoose. He had interviewed twice with the company, including a trip in November to Mongoose HQ in Chicago. A verbal agreement had been reached by Christmas with the promise of written confirmation in the first week of 2001.

"I knew that Mongoose was up for sale but my understanding was that the purchaser would be from outside the industry and new employment would be unaffected by any consolidation," said Gosling.

However, all new hirings were put on hold once Pacific Cycles took over and the job Gosling thought he was about to start, evaporated.

The Mongoose job would have been a move back into the trade he loves. A stint with a motorcycle web site convinced Gosling that the bicycle trade was where he felt more at home.

A few months away from the industry soon made me realise where I needed to be."

Hes been in the bike trade man and boy. As well as Cannondale, he has been a rep for Dawes and before that worked in a London bike shop. A former British BMX Champion, Gosling is also an MTB race commentator and is now looking for a sales or marketing job in the UK cycle trade
