Cycling Plus is to feature an exclusive interview with Graeme Obree following his appearance at the first BikeRadar Live last weekend – which saw 8, 472 attendees flock to attend the festival set at Donington Park at the end of May.

Obree was the World Champion Individual Pursuit for 4,000m in 1993 and 1995 and set the World Hour record in 1993 and 1994. At BikeRadar Live the cycle star took part in the Sportive Procycling Hot Laps at the weekend before taking part in a seminar in the Big Top.

Obree told the magazine that he believed that advanced age is no obstacle to competing in cycling: “I don’t think that you’re physically hampered from winning at the highest level just because of age,” said Obree. To diminish yourself just in terms of age isn’t justified.

“I don’t think you can use it as an excuse, not if you’ve kept it going. I’m not saying that I will break the Hour record, but I am aspiring to do it. You know, last year was the first year since I was 16 that I didn’t win a race.”

For more from Obree take a look at the forthcoming issue (224) of Cycling Plus, while BikeBiz is carrying its own BikeRadar Live focus next month.
