Green light given for MTB trails in Strathmashie forest

The Cairngorms National Park Board has approved the plans by Forestry Commission Scotland and the Laggan Forest Trust for 14 kilometres of advanced, intermediate and beginners' trails in Strathmashie forest, Inverness-shire. There are plans for a Hub in the Forest-style MTB cafe/trail centre, and Forestry Commission Scotland is seeking expressions of interest from potential operators.

The Commission's Inverness district manager, David Jardine, said,

"We're delighted that the park board has approved the plans, and we look forward to getting on with delivering this exciting project on the ground. We are now inviting tenders for the contract to build the trails and hope to

award the contract in March. We expect work to start soon after that, with a view to opening the trails in the summer."

The trails will comprise a 1.4-kilometre fun route for all abilities, a 6.3-km route for intermediate riders, and a 6.4km advanced route.

Meanwhile the Commission and Trust have applied for planning permission to provide support facilities for the trail in the form of car parking, bike hire and repair, a cafeteria and showers.
