Hampsten TT bike to be ridden by US president

No, not marathon-biker John Kerry, he's still president-in-waiting. The Vetriolo time trial frameset, new from Hampsten Cycles, will be promoted at a US bike show by Dave Dederer, singer/guitarist for rock band The Presidents of the United States of America.

The frameset will be launched at the Seattle International Bicycle Expo. Sharing boothspace with Steve and Andy Hampsten will be Dave Dederer, a Category 4 racer with Seattle’s Jet City Velo club.

The Vetriolo is welded in the US by Co-Motion Cycles from 7005-series aero-shaped aluminum tubeset, all to Andy Hampsten's specifications.

Hampsten was the GC winner at the 1988 Giro d’Italia. The won the Levico-Vetriolo time-trial, hence the frameset name.

Dederer purchased one of the first Hampsten steel framesets in 2000, and so began a friendship with Steve Hampsten. Before becoming a rock star, Dederer worked in public relations, and he helps Hampsten

Cycles with press releases, product design, and marketing.

"Steve and Andy are wonderful guys, and I think their bikes blow just about everybody else out of the water – it’s the only place where Joe Average can readily get a winner of a major tour to consult on the design of their custom bike," said Dederer.

Not that he's biased or anything, but he also said:

"I think Steve and Andy’s ideas on geometry and design are way more sensible than many of those embraced by much of the industry. These are great looking, great handling bikes."
