Hard-pedalling US band will play at Interbike

Four years ago, the BikeBiz editor wrote a piece for On Your Bike magazine about the indie band that cycled across America, gigging along the way. Kurt Liebert's 'bicycle' has since pedalled over 10,000 miles, played hundreds of gigs, recorded an EP at Prince’s Paisley Park Studios, released four independently produced CDs and signed a record deal with Capricorn Records. Kurt and his biking band will be at Interbike promoting the Utopian 500 bike tour, a "500 mile, eleven-day rock and roll tour where the musicians and roadies ride their bicycles from show to show."
Publish date:

The Utopian 500 tour is sponsored by Fat Tire Beer, Clif Bar, Xtracycle, Tallac, Bicycle Alliance of Washington and Bike Friday.

It's the second annual outing for the tour, which starts in May 2003, and which is headlined by bicycle (yes, it's spelt with a lower-case 'b') with guest performances by other bands.

bicycle's lead singer Kurt Liebert will be attending Interbike on October 6th and 7th where he will be hosting a press conference and performing at the Tallac booth.

“When you think of surfing, you think of the Beach Boys. When you think of biking, we want people to think of bicycle,” Liebert told People magazine.

bicycle is said to be a "pop, funk, metal and rap outfit."

A feature in The New Yorker Magazine said: “Liebert writes quick and clever songs with catchy hooks…if only all underground pop musicians could be as creative.”
