iF design judges dazzled by Philips dynamo bike light

Electronics firm's SafeRide grabs award
Publish date:

Philips’ dynamo powered SafeRide LED light has picked up a prestigious iF design award.

The bicycle product combines a powerful and long-lasting LED light with battery-free convenience and, according to Panasonic, it features a well-defined beam enabling cyclists to see more and be more visible in traffic.

The dynamo itself has a clean, functional design, with a simple on/off switch and nothing else. With a brushed aluminium housing, the light uses an integrated reflector.

Philips first revealed it was entering the cycle market with a light range at Eurobike last year.

Aside from the SafeRide LED light, Philips bagged a wealth of iF design awards – 28 in total. They included a street lighting system eliminating traditional streetlight poles and instead connecting a string of LEDS across narrow cables which are ‘virtually invisible’ during the day.

The iF award ceremony will take place on March 1st 2011 on the opening day of the CeBIT show, at Hanover Exhibition Centre. The announcement of the 50 ‘gold award winners’ will be made then.
