IFMA: smaller but still busy

In the battle of the European trade shows, IFMA seems to be losing. There are fewer halls this year, and although most big players are still here, reports our special correspondent, they have brought their smaller stands.

Eurobike was a storming show, with 24 000 trade visitors but IFMA isn't dead yet. One exhibitor explained it like this:

"We don't like the situation, but we have to go to both German shows - Eurobike is the best, but no-one from the North goes to it, so we have to come to Koln to meet the Dutch and the British."

The halls are far from empty - IFMA likes its reputation as the show where serious ordering business is done, and the suits are all in evidence. The smaller show is also better in some ways - easier to find friends, and easier to talk to exhibitors too.

The real question for IFMA is how many people will go to Eurobike instead next year?

It's obviously a subject on the minds of the organisers - people with clipboards are wandering the halls, asking that exact question.
