Industry elder statesman honoured with Grand Prix on London's crit course

There's to be a pre-stage criterium for elite riders on the same Westminster course as the pros riding the final day of the Tour of Britain. As a nod towards his 55-year involvement in the bicycle trade, the crit has been named the Bob Chicken Grand Prix.

“I’m honoured that the London Grand Prix is associated with The Tour of Britain’s final stage. It’s great to see The Tour of Britain taking place again and I hope it will inspire many young spectators to take up the sport," said Bob Chicken Snr, former owner of Chicken & Sons, the company which introduced many European road bike accessory brands into the UK from the 1950s onwards.

The Bob Chicken London Grand Prix will be for E1/2 riders. There's a prize fund of £2500 and a trophy for the winner.

The race will start at 12.30pm and there is a £10 entry fee. The event is being organised by Keith Butler and eligible riders should contact Keith Butler at 115 Foxley Lane, Purley, Surrey, CR8 3HQ. Tel: 0208 660 7917.

Earlier in the day, crowds lining up at the finish zone will be entertained by the Onza trials display team. British Cycling will also have bikes on hand to allow children to take part in the 'Go Ride' obstacle course sessions. And Moore Large is supplying a fleet of Sting-Rays for the 'Sting-Ray Challenge' event.
